Terms & conditions

Who these terms apply to

These terms cover every order placed with Kilkenny Electrical Wholesale Ltd ("we", "us", "KEW"), whether you're a trade account holder buying on Net 30 invoice or a domestic customer collecting at the counter and paying on the day. The differences are flagged inline where they matter (payment, returns, delivery). Everything else applies to both equally.

By accepting a quote, placing an order at the counter, or messaging us to confirm "yes go ahead", you accept these terms as written.

Quotes

A quote from KEW is valid for fourteen days from the date on the quote PDF, unless we've said otherwise on the quote itself. Stock is subject to availability when you confirm — we'll ring if anything you've quoted has gone out of stock between issue and confirmation.

To accept a quote, reply to the email it came in on, or ring the counter on (056) 776-2333 quoting the reference at the top of the PDF.

Prices on a quote are net of VAT unless we've written otherwise. VAT is added at the prevailing Irish rate on the invoice. Trade discounts and project pricing — when we've agreed them — appear on the quote itself; they don't carry across to a future quote automatically. If you're not sure whether a discount applies, ring us.

Payment terms

Trade accounts

Net 30 days from invoice date by bank transfer to the account printed on every invoice (Bank of Ireland · IBAN IE97 BOFI 9060 6424 4178 55 · BIC BOFIIE2D). Please quote the invoice number on payment.

Walk-in / collection

Cash, card, or bank transfer at the counter when you collect the goods.

Late payment

If a trade invoice runs past Net 30 we apply statutory interest at the rate set by the European Communities (Late Payment in Commercial Transactions) Regulations 2012 — eight percentage points above the European Central Bank's main refinancing rate at the time the invoice fell due — plus the fixed compensation of €40 per invoice for recovery costs that the same Regulations entitle us to. We'd much rather not — ring us if there's a problem with an invoice and we'll sort it.

Title and risk

Goods remain the property of Kilkenny Electrical Wholesale Ltd until paid for in full. Risk passes to you on collection or delivery.

Delivery

We deliver within a 30 km radius of Kilkenny. Delivery is free on trade orders over €250 net per drop; below that we charge a small handling fee that we'll quote up front. Outside the 30 km radius we'll arrange a courier and quote you the actual carriage cost — no hidden mark-up.

Timing depends on what's in stock today versus what we have to bring in. Stock items normally go out next working day; items we're sourcing carry the lead time we noted on the quote.

Risk passes to you when the goods are unloaded at your address (or collected, if you're picking them up). If the goods arrive visibly damaged — packaging crushed, panel scratched — refuse the delivery and ring us the same day. We'll take it back from the driver and re-supply.

If no one's at the address when the driver arrives, we'll attempt re-delivery the next working day. After two failed attempts the goods come back to the counter and we'll ring to arrange collection or a third delivery (with a re-delivery charge).

Returns and warranties

Unsuitable items — unopened, in original packaging, with the receipt or invoice — come back within 14 days for a full credit. Bring them to the counter or ring us to arrange collection.

Items returned after 14 days, or opened but in resaleable condition, carry a 15% restocking fee. We use that to cover the time it takes our staff to check, re-pack, and re-shelve the item; it isn't a profit centre.

Special-order items — cut-length cable, custom-built panels, MTO switchgear, anything we ordered specifically to your spec — are non-returnable unless they arrive faulty. The manufacturer won't take them back from us, so we can't take them back from you. We'll flag this on the quote where it applies.

Manufacturer warranties (typically 12–24 months, longer on some brands) run from the date on your invoice. If something fails inside the warranty period, bring it to us and we'll handle the claim with the manufacturer — you don't need to ring the brand yourself. We'll either repair, replace, or credit, depending on what the manufacturer agrees and what makes most sense for the job.

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 if you're a domestic customer.

Stock descriptions

Descriptions, photos, and category placement on kew.ie and in our quote PDFs are for identification only — they help you find the right part, not specify it. The manufacturer's data sheet is the authoritative spec on dimensions, ratings, certifications, and compliance. If the part you need has to meet a specific standard (IS 10101, IEC, BS EN, ATEX, IP rating), check the data sheet, or ring us and we'll check it with you before you order.

We try to keep stock photos honest — same model, same finish — but manufacturers do refresh designs, so the part you receive may look slightly different to the photo while remaining the same part by the manufacturer's part number.

Liability

Our liability to you in connection with a single order is limited to the invoice value of that order. We don't accept liability for consequential losses — site downtime, missed completion dates, lost income — caused by stock shortages, supplier failures, or the part itself being defective. Run the redundancy and the contingency at your end of the job; that's the trade norm.

Nothing in this section limits liability that can't be limited under Irish law: death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any statutory liability that's stated to override contract terms (Consumer Rights Act 2022 for domestic customers; the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Acts for everyone).

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. Any dispute that we can't resolve at the counter goes to the Irish courts.
